Knowledge Without Change
Weekly Edition #36: October 1st, 2025
Verse I Like:
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
Weekly Dose
Far too commonly in our society—and in Christianity specifically—we find ourselves thinking a lot about the inner workings of our minds, rather than focusing on how we actually apply those insights to our lives.
If you listen to a podcast about morals or right living, but the next day everything you do remains the same, then what was the benefit? This is echoed in James when he says that faith without works is dead. Christianity is not like the Eastern religions, which are inherently self-focused. Christianity calls you to serve, in a variety of ways based on your talents and gifts, but to serve nonetheless.
If you just hear new ideas and change nothing, what was the point? True learning shows itself in how we live differently and treat others. Don’t confuse mental engagement with spiritual obedience. True learning bears fruit.
Quotes I Like:
“If you read something, and your behavior doesn’t change, it means you have learned nothing.”
“In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.”
“When the student is ready, the teacher appears. When the student is truly ready, the teacher disappears.”
Mane Message

This brings us to the parable of the wise and foolish builders. Jesus taught that the one who hears His words and acts on them is like a wise man who builds his house on rock, standing firm in the storm. The one who hears but does not act is like a foolish man building on sand. Both men hear, but it’s in the doing.
The implication is that everyone builds a house, and everyone faces storms. The difference isn’t in what they knew, but in what they did. Obedience to the Lord is the foundation, not simply hearing the words.
It’s not enough to admire His teachings or pick and choose to agree with some of them on an intellectual level. The call is to follow and to build according to His words, not our preferences.
And this is where many drift. We mistake passive listening for active faith. We take notes but never take steps. We learn, but never lean in. And over time, that gap between knowing and doing erodes, and we are often left with an uneasy, empty feeling.
Don’t just read the Word, but respond to it. Don’t just nod in agreement, but act in obedience. Don’t just be stirred, be changed.
The strength of your foundation is revealed not in how much you know, but in how much you obey. Start listening, start learning, and start applying. The difference between a house that falls and one that stands is a man who uses wisdom and understanding to take action.
