The Drift of Temptation
Weekly Edition #61: March 25th, 2026
Verse I Like:
“In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
Weekly Dose
I tend to think of temptation as something that shows up clearly and immediately. Something akin to a quick burn, not a slow, drawn-out confrontation.
I think of sin as something that can be identified, prepared for, and responded to.
But this isn’t the usual pattern. More often, it’s super subtle.
Subtle enough to pass as normal.
Not necessarily wrong at first glance, but just a small compromise.
But these seemingly small, misaligned compromises, if given fuel through our allowance, become larger or further compromises.
The idea is seen in slight deviations in direction over a long timeline. If you travel just one degree off course, you’ll be nearly 17 miles off after 1,000 miles.
“Insignificant” variance becomes a serious separation.
Do not be slowly drawn away from what you stand for.
Quotes I Like:
“The chains of habit are too light to be felt, until they are too heavy to be broken.”
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Mane Message

One of the more interesting things about the Book of Judges is how repetitive it is.
The same general sequence plays out again and again. Periods of stability, followed by drift.
Drift that eventually leads to consequences. And then, a return.
Reading it now, it’s easy to recognize the pattern early.
But what stands out is how gradual it happens.
There isn’t always a clear moment where everything changes. Just a series of smaller decisions that, over time, shift the direction entirely.
What was once out of place becomes familiar, and from familiar becomes standard.
It’s easy to read Judges and see the pattern.
Much harder to notice it while you’re living in its cyclical pattern.
Weekly Ponder
Do our current habits take us somewhere intentional, or are they just taking us?
Where exactly have we stopped paying attention to what we do daily?
