The Power of Rest: A Step Forward in Faith
Weekly Edition #13: April 23rd, 2025
Verse I Like:
"By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done."
Weekly Dose
Recognize that rest is part of the rhythm of progress.
For those of us who are concerned with the outputs and the logic of taking a break vs continuing to work:
There comes a point where you hit your maximum output, and the additional hour you could spend hustling would be wasted compared to if you took an hour to rest. There is a balance between working hard and taking the appropriate amount of time to get ready to get back after it.
Recognize also, that your drive and striving toward your work and purpose is admirable, but consider the balance. Both sides can be taken too far.
Quotes I Like:
“You were never meant to do it all. You were meant to abide in the One who can.”
“The work you do in rest is just as sacred as the work you do in motion.”
“You can’t be fruitful without being rooted. Slow down. Be still. Grow deep.”
Mane Message

Elijah had just called down fire from heaven. He had stood alone against false prophets and seen the power of God on display in a way most of us only dream about. And yet, one chapter later, he’s running for his life—burnt out, afraid, and deeply depressed.
He collapses under a broom tree in the wilderness and says, “I have had enough, Lord. Take my life.” What happens next is striking.
God doesn’t rebuke him. He doesn’t even respond right away. Instead, He sends an angel—not with a sermon, but with food and the gentle instruction: “Get up and eat.” Then Elijah is allowed to sleep again. After more food and more rest, he is finally ready to walk forty days to Horeb, the mountain of God.
It’s only there—in a cave, in quiet—that God finally speaks. Not in the wind. Not in the earthquake. Not in the fire. But in a whisper.
Before the whisper came the weariness. Before the encounter came the exhaustion. And God, in His kindness, didn’t rush Elijah past it. He let him rest.
Rest is not weakness—it’s wisdom. Even Christ took time away to renew His strength. This week, follow His example. One hour of quiet can do more for your spirit than a day of striving. In stepping back, you step forward with God.
Trust in Divine Timing
Practice planning, without obsessing. Using calendars to prepare—not control.
Verse: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” — Proverbs 16:9
Planning is wise. Obsessing is wasteful. Let faith be the foundation for your hustle, not anxiety.
Weekly Ponder
What might be heard in the silence that I can’t hear in the noise?
Is my constant doing a sign of devotion—or of fear?
